Bent Water Brewing is founded on the belief that there are no half-measures in life. If you’re going to do something, you should be prepared to go all in. From the very beginning, we made it a point to be dynamic in appearance, bold and intentional with our flavors, creative with our messaging, and strong within our communities. We think we’ve stayed true to those guiding principles, from championing local and national causes to creating eye-catching can labels and having fun making great beer along the way.
We also pride ourselves on balancing experimentation with consistency: our portfolio includes everything from thirst-quenching hard seltzers and the all-seasons Shaka Pale Ale to small-batch dark beers, lagers, and even the occasional Barleywine.
But it’s genuinely the IPA that helped shape and define the Bent Water brand, starting with our two original IPAs: Thunder Funk, a nod to the classic West Coast style IPA, and Sluice Juice, our beloved best-selling New England IPA. Our IPA portfolio has since grown to include With National IPA Day just around the corner, it felt like the ideal time to take a moment to recognize the IPAs that have helped introduce us to so many fans and friends around the country, and look forward to the future.
Next week marks the anticipated return of one of the IPAs that best capture all of the things we have striven to be since day one: the label is fierce, the beer is bold and flavorful, the name and story are creative, and it taps into one of our most important communities, our home city of Lynn. Supercharger was first created in 2021 as a way to offer a new IPA during a time when customers were in need of anything that would help break the monotony of Covid-era restrictions while paying tribute to one of the many great stories our city has to offer.
During a time when more and more breweries were pumping out IPAs that featured a blend of new hops to offer customers something a little different, we wanted to take things a step further. Supercharger is an example of our IPA brewing prowess at its best (to date, it remains the highest-ranked beer ever judged by Craft Beer & Brewing, with a score of 96). It also features one of our all-time favorite labels (read our last blog to learn a bit more about the cigar-chomping gorilla and the story that inspired him).
Given the beer’s reception, story, and name, it’s only fitting that we use Supercharger to introduce customers to what we’ll be referring to as the Gorilla Series of IPAs. We spoke recently about our love for gorillas (they’ve featured on more than one of our beer labels over the years) and we thought it made sense to tie some of our biggest, boldest beers together. Look for Supercharger (and the blue gorilla) on shelves starting next week, and stay tuned for more innovative IPAs with great stories.
