Did people drink alcohol in ancient and early medieval India? What did they drink? What sorts of religious prohibitions and legal regulations were present? Did teetotallers have other options? Join Siddhartha Shah, Peabody Essex Museum's Curator of Indian and South Asian Art, and Sanskrit scholar James McHugh for an accessible introduction to the world of drinking (and abstinence) in early India, including some recipes for the most ancient drink, sura, made from grains.
